Debut of the McLaren MP4, first 100% carbon fibre chassis, John Watson won at the British Grand Prix.
To minimize ground effect efficiency the side-pods had a 60mm distance from the ground, Gordon Murray on the Brabham BT49 adapted an hydrponeumatic suspension to deceive that rule.
The Lotus 88 appeared but it was declared illegal and never raced.
First win for Alain Prost (French Grand Prix).

Remembering Jo Siffert (24th October 1971)
Tribute to Jo Siffert, death on 24 October 1971 in Brands Hatch for a non-championship F1 race driving a BRM.the car of his last victory (Austrian GP ´71).
Here we show the Lotus 49 from 1968 which the Swiss driver took victory in Brands Hatch being the last win for a private owner team (Rob Walker Team).
